Family therapy is an essential part of each resident’s treatment. Typically, a family therapy session occurs once a week. Our therapists are trained in using a Family Systems Model that identifies stressors, hierarchy, and struggles unique to each family. Then, working together, we develop a problem-solving system to help restore the parent-child relationship and reduce stress.
Each child has a “playbook” that includes their specific problem-solving techniques. Our residential counselors help residents use these techniques. As they prepare to return home, residents and their families have opportunities to role-play and practice the techniques. Family therapy helps residents, their parents and siblings prepare to live together more peacefully after discharge.
